Precipice Hike!!!!

These are not my pictures but, I wanted to give you a sense of what it was like at times. Scandalous.

Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park

Hi there! I haven't updated in a really long time. I wanted to share a few pics before I arrive at my 5th airport of the day and my final destination. FYI: Bar Harbor, ME is really far from Palm Springs, CA.

So, I've been busy. This past week, we did a photo shoot in Bar Harbor, ME. It was challenging but, good. We worked long days and got very little sleep. I've posted a few iphone photos below of my favorite spots along the way. I didn't end up with almost any pictures on my little point-and-shoot this time so, these will have to do.

Bar Harbor is such a quintessential New England town and Acadia National Park has the most amazing views! My favorite part of the trip had to be our first shoot day. Our crew of 17 hiked the Precipice Trail, which the locals deem the most challenging hike in Acadia. It was was a bit hairy a times. There are a bunch of iron ladders towards the top that dangle you over 1,000 foot drops. The last 1/4 of the hike is pretty much vertical. We just held our breath and decided the hike was worth doing together to loosen people up and get some great shots! We didn't go all the way but, we went far enough to see the DANGER! We had great weather until the end of our second day, at which point we received flash flood warnings and had to stop shooting. After a late start on our third day, we got things going again and finished up on a high note. Our RV driver was the best ever and made us warm cookies, homemade guacamole, mini pizzas and smoothies. Food drives a crew...especially when it's cold and rainy. Ok, off to the desert. See you soon.

Catching Up.

I spent yesterday afternoon and evening with my mom. Just us. We chatted, read the paper, tried to outsmart each other during a few rounds of Chinese Checkers, and later had a simple supper with lots of fresh veggies. Nice!

The Lost Cyclist

Imagine. You're 24. It's 1892. You've discovered how far you can travel on two wheels. You decide to ride around the world on your bike, taking pictures as you go, to document the experience. You start in NY and head west, traveling to Hawaii, Japan, China, Burma, India. You have 1,000 miles to go before you reach Europe where you know you will be well received and welcomed as a hero. You could take the most direct and dangerous route through Turkey or a safer and longer route through Russia. You take the shorter route and are never heard from again. But, you still left an amazing story behind.

David Herlihy, author of The Lost Cyclist, spoke at JDK yesterday.

Matt and Allison are hitched!

Some couples decide to have a big wedding. Those, are a blast. Others decide to host a big tubing party, BBQ, rock show and camping extravaganza a few days after the actual ceremony has taken place. Allison and Matt decided on the latter. I spent my Saturday floating down the river on a large, red, donut-shaped tube. What a nice way to relax and catch up with friends, (after dumping them in the water, sneak-attack-style). It was a perfect summer afternoon with the newlyweds.
Of course there was a photographer on hand taking these very flattering portraits of every guest. No one was safe. Enjoy!

Blueberries.

Jay and Maegen are away this weekend. They invited a few of their friends to swing by and pick from the very productive blueberry bushes in their yard while they are out of town. Don't mind if I do! I spent part of my lunch break picking these beauties along with a couple of hot peppers. Thanks guys!

2nd Annual, Lobsterfest.

Last night, a couple of us got together at the cabin to relax, swim and eat up some lobster! Maegen and Jay brought jalepeno poppers made with peppers from their garden. They were deathly hot and even got Marin's eyes watering! We were all able to sit outside comfortably, (note the new oak table I scored at a yard sale this weekend). Last year, we managed to fit around the table in the kitchen but, everyone needs a little extra room when there are shells to be cracked and lemons to be squeezed. After dinner we had some dessert. No one was tasked with bringing dessert parts but, somehow we ended up with: Maple Blondie and Vanilla Ben and Jerry's ice cream, 3 kinds of fudge (heath bar, key lime and tiger), chopped hazelnuts, sprinkles, whipped cream, hot fudge and warm cookies! No cherries though...
