Imagine. You're 24. It's 1892. You've discovered how far you can travel on two wheels. You decide to ride around the world on your bike, taking pictures as you go, to document the experience. You start in NY and head west, traveling to Hawaii, Japan, China, Burma, India. You have 1,000 miles to go before you reach Europe where you know you will be well received and welcomed as a hero. You could take the most direct and dangerous route through Turkey or a safer and longer route through Russia. You take the shorter route and are never heard from again. But, you still left an amazing story behind.
David Herlihy, author of The Lost Cyclist, spoke at JDK yesterday.
